The weights are made of high-density tungsten. Tungsten as a weight is becoming increasingly popular and offers three major advantages over conventional materials. It has a very high density and can therefore be smaller for the same weight, making it less abrasive. This also makes it sink faster, and its hardness provides better feedback on ground conditions.
