Larger streamers or saltwater patterns are often tied on stronger hooks with longer shanks. In order to place more robust materials firmly on the hook, oftentimes stronger threads have to be used, so that more force can be applied when tying the materials in.  This is why Rite has developed the Magnum Bobbin. The extra-long tube shaft enables precise work around longer hook shanks and the slightly larger tube diameter allows more room for thicker yarns or even chenille. 

The Magnum bobbin holder is also popular among rod builders, as it accommodates some of the most popular rod-building threads like Gudebrod and Dynacord.
