Due to its ability to float high and long, deer hair is used commonly for dry fly patterns - as a body (e.g. Goddard Sedge) or wing. Packed tightly onto the hook shank and trimmed with sharp scissors or a razor blade, deer hair makes great heads too. The most prominent example is the Muddler, a classic streamer for both running and still waters. As a more filigree variation deer hair can be used for extended mayfly bodies too.
