They feature a Kink-shank, which strengthens the fly by reducing twisting inside the foam fly body. The most secure way is wrap some tying thread around the hook shank and add some drops of super glue before you put the hook eye into the foam body from behind.
A wide hook gap optimizes hook-up rates by creating the needed separation from the fly's body. The chemically sharpened point keeps your catch on the hook. The small barb can be pressed on easily.
