Echo Trout X Single Handed Fly Rod

The Trout X is a true masterpiece from Echo company chief and casting world champion Tim Rajeff. A rod that has been designed from the ground up with the specific requirements of modern trout and grayling fishing in mind.

The special feature of this rod series: Each model was built for a specific area of application and has its own characteristics that experienced casters can use to their advantage. All Trout X rods are based on Echo's 'Variable Sweet Spot' technology. The idea here is that the Trout X rods behave very progressively from the tip to the butt section and become increasingly stiffer. So compared to many other rods, there is no such thing as a 'big' sweet spot that has been optimised for a specific casting distance. There is no distance range where the Echo X feels particularly comfortable. The VSS action, on the other hand, gives casters the opportunity to use every inch of the rod by adjusting their cast to the line speed and loop size they need. It is a very harmonious action that beginners and novices will easily grow into, but it offers advanced casters many great options in practice. If you have an aggressive casting style, for example, you can use a lighter line on this rod - and vice versa!

However, it is not only the adaptation of these rods to your cast that is impressive, but also their light weight. It makes setting the hook easier and helps with shorter, more precise casts. Lighter rods also transfer more energy to the line than heavier rods. That's why Echo's Trout X rods are also made in a factory that has access to the latest and best carbon fibre materials. And special attention has also been paid to quality in the rings and other components to reduce the rods' weight and improve their performance.

All Echo Trout X rods are all four-piece and finished with a mist green gloss coating. The matching decorative wraps ensure the rods blend in with their surroundings. All snake rings are chrome plated to reduce friction. The SIC stripper rings improve line delivery and the slim half wells handle made from high quality cork and the spacer made from fine burl wood are beautiful, lightweight and low maintenance. All in all, the result is a timeless, classic look that suits trout and grayling fishing particularly well and is impossible to get enough of!

Recommendations from Tim Rajeff:

  • #3 7.6 ft."For shorter casts it is best to use a rod that is not too stiff so that it can bend with a small amount of line already outside the tip ring." (Tim Rajeff). To have more fun chasing small to medium sized fish in smaller streams and rivers, a 3-weight is perfect. The trick is to make a rod soft enough that it can be loaded with just a little line and still have enough power to handle a gust of wind and cast bushy dry flies. To make the rod "swing along" on a cast and hit a close target as quickly as possible, it is best to use a shorter rod. Trout anglers fishing in the stony mountain streams have known this for years.

  • #4 8.4 ft.: "These 4-weight rods are designed to protect the finest leader tips and to be used in as many different waters as possible. Except in the bigger rivers!" (Tim Rajeff). Shorter #4 rods are important for those who need pinpoint casts in tight spaces. Cast control is what you feel when you hold it in your hands. Casting a dry fly into a coffee cup at 35 feet is now easier. A perfect rod for mountain streams, technical pocket fishing or very picky trout in small to medium rivers.

  • #5 9ft."This 5-piece rod is tight enough to cast streamers, grasshoppers, indicators and weighted nymphs into the wind. The most versatile rod in the series!" (Tim Rajeff). A 9 ft. rod in line class 5 is the best-selling rod in the world for a reason. It is the best seller because it is soft enough to use finer leaders without losing every nice fish when you set the hook. This model has a Line Stiffness Rating (LSR) of 5.4, which is in the optimum range for a wide range of applications. A soft 5 rod could be well balanced with a 4.7 line. A particularly stiff / far-casting 5 rod might need a 5.9 line to balance it.

  • #6 9ft."You reach for this rod when you have wind, need to cast far, cast big, heavy flies or when you want to carry big nymphs with strike indicators." (Tim Rajeff). A real powerhouse with which you can really cast anything in adverse conditions on bigger waters. From sink tips to zonkers with tungsten coneheads: This workhorse will haul anything and, thanks to a Line Stiffness Rating (LSR) of 6.5, will also handle short, aggressive lines very well! You can even use short shooting heads on this rod without any problems.
