Douglas Sky Series Single Handed Fly Rod

The multiple award-winning Sky Series is a modern fly rod in a class of its own. Strictly speaking, however, these are three different rod models that have been developed for completely different fishing scenarios - and therefore also differ in terms of action and features. Firstly, the Sky Series includes longer, fine models for modern nymph fishing. These rods with lengths of 10ft. to 11ft. are effective tools for Euro Nymphing and comparable tight line techniques. Secondly, there are exclusive all-round rods for use in freshwater for Trout and Grayling. Both for presenting the smallest dry flies and for swinging a big weighted streamer on a heavy sink tip. And thirdly, the Sky Series features powerful predator rods that, thanks to 100% saltwater-resistant components, can be used not only for our for Sea Trout on the Baltic Sea or Pike, but also for heavy tropical fishing. In short: a comprehensive rod series that covers almost all possibilities of single-handed fishing.

As different as the target fish of the rod models are, they are very similar in quality. This is because the Sky Series uses the latest rod building technologies in its quest to achieve fly rod perfection. The blanks are wonderfully light and cast superbly over all distances. The rods offer excellent dampening in the drill and enormous restoring power. They allow almost effortless casts, impressive precision and last but not least offer extreme durability. The innovative top components of the Sky Series include: Fuji Torzite Titanium Stripping Guides, REC titanium rings, a handle made of AAAA-Flor cork, a skeletonised aluminium reel seat and double uplocking rings to secure the fly reel. Depending on the model, the Sky Series spacer differs between anodised aluminium (saltwater rods) and noble burl wood inlay.

The matt platinum blank of the Sky Series is made of nano carbon and impressed us above all with its enormous recovery speed. What struck us particularly positively on our first casts was the combination of speed and sensitivity. The swing weight of the Douglas Sky Series is incredibly low, which means you can cast all day without getting tired. At just about 80g, the #5 is one of the lightest fly rods on the market! Without effort you are able to keep large amounts of line in the air with this rod. In the low line classes, the Sky Series is the perfect tool if you want to present small flies particularly gently or fish with fine leaders and small jig nymphs. And in the high line classes, the Sky Series is ideal for demanding fly fishers who are dedicated to Sea Trout, Pike or other predatory target fish in fresh- and saltwater.

In short: a high-end fly rod made of ultra-light nano carbon with the best components available in modern rod making.
