The standout feature of the new Adams Max Black V2 Euro Nymph fly rod is its unsanded blank, which significantly reduces friction with the line and prevents wet, monofilament lines from sticking to the blank. Other features that catch the eye include the handle and spacer, which, like the popular Max Black and Adams XTZ series, are also made of carbon. This not only looks visually appealing but also offers a significant advantage, especially for Euro Nymphing. In this stretched line technique, maximum sensitivity and finesse are required throughout the setup. Fishing is done with small nymphs and thin, long leaders, using specialized lines with minimal diameter. The rods are also designed to detect even the slightest bites. And this is where the Adams carbon handle excels over traditional cork grips. The braided carbon fibers are extremely strong and amplify all vibrations (such as bites) from the blank—while conventional cork, on the other hand, absorbs vibrations, causing much of the bite sensitivity to be lost. In short, this means you can feel subtle bites better and convert more strikes. You’ll also have more control when tracking the drift of the nymph.

Unlike the Adams XTZ, the Max Black V2 is available in line class #3. Max Black Blank

• Like its predecessor, the Max Black V2 rods from Adams have a universal length of 10.5 ft. (3.20 m) in line class #3. This makes this rod series suitable for larger rivers and extremely strong salmonids and barbel. The new unsanded blank of the Max Black V2, made from Japanese nano-carbon material, provides increased sensitivity, responsiveness, and perfect balance. The new resins in the second generation of the Max Black reduce weight while also improving performance in terms of strength and durability. The rod also has a very fast tip recovery—combined with a snappy backbone. Especially during the fight with large brown trout and barbel, the Max Black V2 reveals impressive power reserves, while the tip is stiff enough to set the hook with precision. Hardcore Euro nymphers benefit from the unsanded "spiral wrap finish" of the Max Black blank, as "mono rigs" stick less to the blank in rainy conditions.

Reel Seat and Fighting Butt

• Like all other Adams nymph rods, the Max Black features a down-locking reel seat to achieve perfect balance between the reel and rod. The CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum reel seat matches the overall appearance of the rod and can be adjusted precisely. The reel seat is equipped with CFX composite carbon fiber, which has the same finish and properties as the carbon handle. Adams designed the fighting butt to provide additional comfort during the fight with a fish and to act as a counterweight. Since additional mass was added to the fighting butt, it was crucial to reduce the weight of another important component: the rod guides.

Rod Guides (11+1)

• To minimize potential snagging of the leader or line, the rod builders at Adams once again opted for the 11+1 guide formula: 10 lightweight single-foot guides and 1 triple-foot stripping guide with a SIC insert, placed 20 cm above the carbon handle. The large guides allow for smooth passage of any line/leader knot.
