Seigler Fly Reel silver

Modern, elegant, and incredibly strong: With the Lever Drag Fly Reel, Seigler has brought an extremely exciting product to the market, which particularly catches the attention of passionate saltwater anglers. But also two-handed fly fishers and predatory fish fans will fully benefit from this genuine innovation. A well-thought-out concept with perfect execution, thanks to the sophisticated design and the use of the best possible materials.

Seigler's fly reel stands out visually because of an unmistakable lever, setting it apart from all other fly reels on the market: That's the Lever Drag! And this name fits perfectly, because with a sleek, ergonomic lever that is easy to grip in the heat of battle, you can adjust the drag pressure from completely open to full closurewithin a smooth 140-degree turn - and all this without having to change hands or even think too much. The lever also directly indicates how strong the current drag setting is. The maximum braking force, when the lever is fully engaged, can be individually adjusted, allowing you to perfectly match the resistance to your target fish. This way, your focus remains entirely on the essentials.

The round brake knob in the middle calibrates the lever's maximum drag force, and then on the actual lever, you can smoothly and continuously adjust the resistance between open and the set maximum stopping power (= closed brake) during the fight, constantly adapting to the fish's fleeing behavior. The maximum braking force is immense, even in the smallest model (SF). Thanks to the highest quality components, the brake and housing have been optimized for durability and efficiency, even under intense use in saltwater.

Form follows Function!
Not only is the drag lever unconventional in design for this reel, but also the spool of the Seigler fly reel differs from other reels. It is asymmetrical, which brings several advantages. The asymmetrical construction of the inner side reduces the friction of the ball bearings by more than 25% and greatly reduces the pressure on the rotation axis under load. This protects the brake components and contributes to the extremely long lifespan of the Seigler reel. Additionally, the line lays cleanly and evenly on the spool during winding. This is crucial for clean line release during the fight, without cutting into itself.

Other features besides the powerful brake and special spool design include the large, ergonomically shaped reel handle, which can be gripped excellently in any situation, as well as the interchangeable "Dovetail" reel foot for compact weight distribution. The reel is entirely milled from the finest 6061 T6 Kaiser aluminum, and all other components inside the reel are 100% corrosion-resistant. The package includes a Travel Parts Kit with which the reel can be easily converted from right to left-hand operation or serviced directly on the water.

Small Fly (SF) - Rod Class #6-9
The name is deceiving because this reel is packed with power and amazing line capacity to tackle fish of all sizes. The size of the reel has been adjusted for lighter saltwater fishing to perfectly balance on rods in the 6-9 weight range and ensure fatigue-free casting. Its diameter is identical to the MF, but it's slightly narrower and therefore more discreet. Its wide range of applications includes fishing for bonefish, triggerfish, redfish, but even in our regions, you can use the reel excellently for pike, large sea trout, trophy sea bass, and more. When the brake is completely closed, it has the braking power of a #12 - there's nothing more to say. It's no wonder the SF Lever Drag Fly Reel won the award for the best fly reel in 2019 at the ICAST. This reel has nothing to hide.

Medium Fly (MF) - Rod Class #9-11
It is the all-around workhorse for medium saltwater fishing with the same incredibly strong braking power as the Big Fly but with less weight. Whether it's permit in the Caribbean, powerful peacock bass in the jungle, or fast trevallies in the Seychelles, this reel can handle any fishing scenario and fits perfectly on your #9-11 weight rods. Backing? You really don't need to worry about that with the MF; its capacity is unbelievable! These features were already appreciated by independent jurors in 2018, and the reel was awarded the prize for the best fly reel at the ICAST.

Big Fly Narrow (BFN) - Rod Class #10-12
It's a newcomer to the Seigler lineup. It has the same spool diameter as the Big Fly but with a narrower design, meaning a reduced spool width. This makes the reel lighter and further promotes line retrieval. In terms of usage, it fits exactly between the MF and the BF. Especially when fast retrieval speeds are necessary, this reel is the perfect companion: for big permit, triggerfish, peacock bass, tarpon, and other fast-swimming predators on the flats. Or during your hunt for salmon or steelhead with a two-handed rod, because here too, fast line retrieval can be decisive.

Big Fly (BF) - Rod Class #11-13
The reel that allows you to tackle even the most buoyant giants without hesitation. With the Big Fly, you're perfectly equipped for the strongest and fastest opponents. Huge giant trevally on the sand flats, gigantic tarpon in the Caribbean tropics, or massive tunas in the open expanses of the oceans. Or will the reel help you catch the salmon of your life? Even a heavy two-handed rod is perfectly complemented by the BF Lever Drag. The combination of concentrated braking power and the corresponding backing capacity makes all of this possible. For even more stability, the largest variant of the Lever Drag is manufactured with a closed spool cage.

Xtra Big Fly (XBF) - Rod Class #11-14
According to "Fly Fisherman - GEAR GUIDE," Seigler's XBF is the best new saltwater fly reel (2023). It's the new speed monster on the market because with its huge spool diameter, it covers a lot of ground with each turn. To prevent it from becoming too bulky and heavy, the spool width has been reduced to just under 2 cm, making the reel very elegant despite its size. The brake lever is logically a bit larger to provide even better brake control. Thanks to the full-frame design, the reel is not only incredibly stable but also perfect for fishing with monofilament shooting lines when using a two-handed rod for salmon or steelhead.
