Fortuna Regent. The latest generation of Hardy's high-end reel series picks up the legacy of saltwater legend Andy Mill, who shaped the original Fortuna and made it one of the most popular reels for tough use in the tropics. Not without good reasons, the Fortuna Regent steps out confidently and crowns herself the new head of the Hardy family.
On the one hand, it is impressive in terms of appearance with its fresh, light and airy design and a significantly narrower diameter. The completely revised structure of the spool ensures that the fly line can now be picked up even faster. The largest model of the Fortuna Regent has an incredible line pick-up of 16+ inches per second. In other words: with every turn of the spool, more than 40cm of line are spooled up! In the harsh reality of saltwater fishing, this means you can drill the fish faster and with more pressure, and get your line back on the reel quicker after a long run. In addition, the fast line retrieve makes it easier to control a fish swimming towards you. Bonus points that passionate tropical fishing fans will appreciate!
On the other hand, the Fortuna Regent features tried and tested details that made the first generation of the Fortuna one of the most popular reels for saltwater fishing. For example, Hardy has reinstalled the original Power Paddle knob as proposed by Andy Mill. The flattened design of the knob allows you maximum control and helps you to transmit the right pressure. And despite the many visual differences to the previous model, the product developers at Hardy have once again decided to install a 360-degree brake knob. This means that you can still close the brake completely with just one turn. This single-turn drag system has become so firmly established in saltwater fishing that it is also found on many other top models on the market.
When it comes to drag performance, you can still rely on the Hardy Fortuna. With an impressive power of more than 18lbs, the Fortuna is still one of the strongest fly reels. The powerhouse is made from full block 6061 aluminium and has a scratch-resistant, hard anodised finish. Modern and minimalistic! Inside the Fortuna sleeps a multi-sealed, saltwater-proof carbon brake system that gives you low start-up drag with instant power. The pressure can be adjusted very accurately and works as smoothly as silk. Perfect if you're targeting strong but cautious fish in tropical saltwater - for example, permit.
The reliable carbon brake system of the Fortuna Regent combined with the robust construction of the spool and closed frame and the flawless, modern finish make this reel one of the best reels for the "big boys". Big and feisty fish like Tuna, GT, Sailfish or even Tarpon are just the right opponents for the big models, while you can go after Bonefish, Permit and co. on the flats or our local pike with the smaller versions. The line retrieve is outstanding on all models and the weight has been reduced in direct comparison with the previous model. We like that a lot! We think that with the Fortuna Regent from Hardy you will be well prepared for all predators in fresh- and saltwater. For us, one of the best reels in this price range! By the way, the jury at ICAST also saw it that way and honoured the Fortuna Regent with the Top Award for the category 'Fly Reel and Accessories'.
