The 'Wild Salmon Series' (WSS) is a truly special passion project for Mikkael Frödin - created as a sustainable trademark for the protection of our endangered wild fish. Each reel contributes to preserving wild salmon for future generations and allows thousands of wild salmon to reach the rivers for spawning. Every purchase of a strictly limited Salar WSS reel contributes to a total donation of 500,000 SEK (€45,000) to the Baltic Salmon Fund. We find this initiative exemplary and are thrilled to offer you some of the only 100 available reels from the 'Wild Salmon Series.' We believe this is one of the most extraordinary reel series from Scandinavia. The family includes four reels in total, covering the entire spectrum of salmon and trout fishing. The reels from the Salar Wild Salmon Series are designed to stand out visually: with the iconic leaping salmon on the elegant black side plates and the cut-out salmon shapes in the reel foot. • Wild Salmon Series 'ONE' (6/8): The smallest Salar WSS reel is designed for delicate conditions and single-handed fishing. Size One is just as effective for larger trout and rainbows as it is for salmon, sea trout, or steelhead. Despite its compact size, this robust reel features the same advanced braking system as the larger models in the WSS family. Whether you are dedicated to light salmon fishing or targeting large brown, rainbow, or sea trout, this reel is incredibly reliable. It holds 100 m of 30 lbs backing, a running line with a shooting head, or a WF line in class #6 - #8.
• Wild Salmon Series 'TWO' (7/9): The WSS Two is the ideal reel for single-handed rods targeting the largest and strongest fish, or for balancing switch rods and two-handed rods with lighter line weights. It is a true gem - never feeling too big or too small. The WSS Two is suitable for rods between 9 and 13 feet and is perfect for those who love hunting big fish in smaller rivers. It is extremely robust and holds 150 m of 30 lbs backing. • Wild Salmon Series 'THREE' (8/10): The WSS Three is a true workhorse - a reel that meets the high expectations of any passionate angler hunting for large Atlantic salmon or steelhead. A well-balanced setup is the key to successful days on the river. We recommend this size for rods between 12 and 15 feet. This large reel holds 200 m of 60 lbs backing, providing ample capacity for most rivers. Size Three is a true all-rounder - the perfect salmon reel for most occasions. This reel not only contributes to the preservation of wild salmon stocks but also helps many salmon anglers catch the fish of their lifetime.
• Wild Salmon Series 'FOUR' (10/12): The Salar WSS Four is built for big rivers, where the largest fish need to be safely landed even under challenging conditions. The reel is based on Frödin's years of experience on some of the world's best big fish rivers - from Alta and Bolstadelva to the Grand and Restigouche system. Size Four is designed for targeting the largest fish with longer rods from 14 to 16 feet and holds 300 m of 80 lbs backing. Tightening the brake and engaging the clicker on a fish over 30 pounds is pure joy - for many anglers, this is the essence of salmon fishing.
