With the RVR series, the traditional company Bauer has once again succeeded. After three years of development, these fly reels not only put a bold exclamation mark in terms of design, but also mix up the premium fly reel segment from a technical point of view. When creating the modern RVR design, the experienced reel builders from Montana/USA quickly realized how challenging it is to work on such a complex fly reel. The complexity and double-anodized design of the RVR would have been too difficult to achieve on a conventional 3-axis machine, so they looked to the latest 5-axis machines available. With success, as the result clearly proves. The workmanship of the Bauer RVR fly reels is beyond reproach and flawless in every respect. Minimal gaps, beautifully flattened edges, filigree and at the same time stable struts and a handy brake knob, which can be adjusted smooth as butter - these are just some of the highlights. With different models, the RVR series covers most typical scenarios of modern fly fishing - for example, nymph fishing.
The MS stands for 'Micro Spey' on this member of the Bauer RVR family. This is a light form of two-handed fishing that is becoming increasingly popular. Slightly shorter two-handed rods are used to fish for Trout, Sea Trout (in the river), Ssp or Steelhead. Very compact shooting heads are used, for which this fly reel was developed. The RVR MS easily stores short Skagit heads in classes 3, 4 or 5 and the closed spool cage prevents thin mono running lines from slipping out of the spool and being damaged. The weight of this reel was carefully considered to balance the longer, two-handed rods used for Trout Spey, for example. The capacity of the spool is designed for a wide range of Scandi- and Skagit-style lines. This gives you the freedom to choose and swap back and forth between many different heads.
With its midnight black finish and minimalist laser-etched accents, the RVR MS fits beautifully on the vast majority of Micro Spey rods. We especially like the closed back of the reel, which bridges nicely with more traditional reels. Overall, a beautiful fly reel in a class of its own, in which we immediately fell in love. It convinces with its unique design and outstanding manufacturing quality and is a reliable partner for many wonderful years of light two-handed fishing on the river.
