Abel TR - The return of a classic
The original TR from Abel came on the market back around 1990 and quickly became a favorite of many trout anglers who loved simplicity. Traditional, simple and built to last many generations. The new edition stays true to the original idea, but with a small facelift and some new features.
The exterior of the reel is as simple as it is classy: a semi-solid back with chic stainless steel details and porting on the lower part. The chassis is machined from robust 6061 aircraft aluminum and is hard anodized for extra durability and resistance. Inside the reel slumbers a simple but sturdy click-pawl drag that controls light base resistance. The integrated clicker is inconspicuously incorporated into the inside of the spool and also serves as a counterweight for the crank, so that the spool always turns perfectly balanced and never wobbles. The stainless steel clicker not only provides a pleasant tension when pulling the line, but above all it produces the characteristic sound that many Abel fans have come to love so much. To simplify palming the reel. the outer rim of the spool has been specially highlighted. So during the fight of a fish you have the ultimate control here, because you can control the tension with your palm alone. This is not only particularly safe when fishing with very fine leaders, it is also just incredibly fun.
In total, the reel consists of just 21 individual parts. If sand, dirt or anything else gets into the reel, you can simply open it and clean it yourself. Simple, effective and above all extremely easy to self-service. So you are guaranteed a traditional performance for many, many years. As a little gimmick, Abel has engraved a stonefly, a mayfly and a caddis fly on the inside of the frame. A small work of art and the perfect piece of equipment for trout junkies who love traditional performance with a modern twist.
In short: light, strong, robust and efficient, the new TR has become an absolute collector's item, combining a modern, revised design with classic performance and incredible precision work. All the individual parts are perfectly and flawlessly crafted and work together like Swiss clockwork.
