The Premier 24ft Sink Tip fly line is according to Rio their best and most versatile sink tip line! Be it to fish in the lighter classes in strong current with streamers for trout, in a deep dam for pike and perch, or in a rushing river for salmon, steelhead, sea trout and co.
The first 7.3 m of the line are provided with tungsten particles, so that the line quickly comes to depth. In contrast to many comparable, fast-sinking lines, Rio has built in this special line a great feature: it is Density Compensated over the entire length of the head! This means that the sink rate decreases gradually and seamlessly from the tip to the running line. The combination of different sinking rates along the line profile creates a gradual transition between the different densities. This results on the one hand in better casting characteristics, but on the other hand in a much more homogeneous sinking behaviour and thus much more control when retrieving the fly and detecting bitea, because a straight line is created between the rod tip and the fly.
Another thought-out adjustment to the taper that significantly improves casting characteristics is the thicker "body section", i.e. the rear part of the belly. The thicker line profile in this area absorbs excess energy during casting, preventing the line from "kicking" uncomfortably, a problem that is unavoidable with many comparable sinking lines. This makes casting much more pleasant, balanced and, above all, more precise. Streamer fishing does not always have to be rough!
The taper of the line is also optimized to deliver large and weighted flies towards the horizon, even in strong winds, while remaining stable in the air. This allows to perfectly time the shooting point of the line and thus come to maximum casting distances. In sinking line fishing, this is especially helpful as we ideally cover as much water as possible to find the fish.
The compact head quickly transitions into the supple running line, which has incredibly good shooting characteristics thanks to the ultra-smooth SlickCast coating. In practice, this allows particularly long casts with very few false casts. With heavy rods, in strong winds or with large flies, this property comes in especially handy.
Rio Technology: Slick Cast
The name says it all! With this new technology, Rio has really shaken up the fly line market. Rio itself promotes it as the smoothest coating on the market. Shootability, noise minimization and durability of the line are improved. We ourselves found the lines so smooth that we had to rein ourselves in a bit at first to avoid overshooting the metaphorical mark. So we can subscribe to Rio's claim.
