The new Rio Elite Single-Handed Spey is the latest edition of one of the most popular spey lines for the single-handed rod. Due to its special taper, it is the perfect line for long roll and switch casts with little backspace. Especially for salmon, steelhead and sea trout fishing in the river, but also for our native trout in medium to large waters, the Single-Handed Spey is an absolute dream. Not without reason, Rio has already promptly cleared various awards years ago with the first edition of this popular hybrid line.
The secret of the great roll casting properties is hidden in the line profile. A large part of the weight is shifted in the rear part of the head, which allows your rod to load the cast already with small D-loops and minimal backspace. The long front taper also ensures that the line delivers wonderfully during the cast, even with long leaders. In addition, lifting and laying down the line works incredibly effortlessly and silently. A huge advantage when fishing in clear waters, at low water or generally in tricky conditions. This is also thanks to the patented SlickCast technology, which gives the coating unparalleled smoothness and suppleness.
Although the line was primarily developed for switch and roll casts, it performs exceptionally well in long overhead casts with a very clean loops. The line is therefore particularly suited to fish medium to large waters where you can exploit the full 10.4m club length. The head is followed by a grippy handling section, which allows you to variably adjust the shooting point of the line for both overhead and roll casts. The thin running line with SlickCast Coating allows to reach great distances when letting it shoot.
Rio Technologies:
- Slick Cast
The name says it all! With this new technology, Rio has really shaken up the fly line market. Rio itself promotes it as the smoothest coating on the market. Shootability, noise minimization and durability of the line are improved. We ourselves found the lines so smooth that we had to rein ourselves in a bit at first to avoid overshooting the metaphorical mark. So we can subscribe to Rio's claim.
- ConnectCore Plus
The low-stretch braided core gives you ultimate control over your fly. The braid is strong and supple in equal measure, and even in icy conditions, the line remains absolutely curl-free. Stretch is reduced by about 30% compared to other lines, so even at long distances every little tug arrives at the end of your leader. On the water, this means better bite detection and conversion, and an even more controlled fly retrieve.
- Multi Density Control (3D)
Different sinking rates are combined within the line profile so that a gradual transition between the different densities is created. This results on the one hand in better casting properties, but on the other hand in a much more homogeneous sinking rate and thus much more control when guiding the lure. A straight line is created between your rod and the fly, so that you can directly recognize and utilize bites even in deep water layers.
