Rio Elite Gold XP Fly Line

The RIO Gold fly lines first made their debut in 2008 – tested under the unforgiving conditions of the legendary Henry’s Fork River in Idaho, USA. After countless casts and endless miles on various waters, the Gold Standard for versatile fly lines revolutionized the way fly fishing is experienced, opening up new possibilities for anglers to push their limits. The newly expanded lines in the RIO Gold series follow the same principle: the perfect all-round fly line allows you to get more out of the waters you fish most. And because no region, water type, or fly box is the same, the Gold series includes different models. Each model is characterized by thoughtful designs and precise weight distributions that cater to the specific applications defining your everyday fishing experiences. This includes the RIO Elite Gold XP Fly Line.

The RIO Elite Gold XP features a versatile taper with a medium-length head that measures between 12.2m and 13.7m, depending on the line weight. It is half a line class heavier than most standard WF lines and offers the most versatile construction within RIO's Gold product line. The added "Extra Power" compared to the classic RIO Gold gives it the flexibility to excel in a wide variety of techniques and casting distances, providing truly balanced performance. Thanks to the medium-length rear taper and balanced head, this floating line offers improved handling of strike indicators and weighted nymphs. It effortlessly delivers dry-dropper rigs at distance and helps you lay large dry flies cleanly on the water. Despite this, the RIO Elite Gold XP is still capable of precise and delicate presentations, while the added weight allows the line to fish and cast comfortably at shorter distances typical of wading in smaller waters.

The RIO Elite Gold XP is available in a variety of line weights, covering a wide range of fishing conditions – from trout and grayling fishing in streams to predator fishing for bass and more. With a total length of 80 to 100 feet (24.4 to 30.5 meters) and a head length of 40 to 45 feet (12.2 to 13.7 meters), depending on the line weight, it provides the flexibility needed for different casting distances and presentation techniques.

Rio Technologies:

  • Slick Cast: The name says it all! With this new technology, Rio has revolutionized the fly line market. Rio claims it to be the smoothest coating on the market, improving shootability, reducing noise, and increasing durability. We found the lines so slick that we initially had to hold back to avoid overcasting. We can confidently confirm Rio’s claims.
  • ConnectCore Plus:
With a low-stretch braided core, you have ultimate control over your fly. The braided core is both strong and supple, remaining tangle-free even in icy conditions. Stretch is reduced by about 30% compared to other lines, ensuring that even the slightest tug at the end of your leader is transmitted over long distances. On the water, this means better bite detection and conversion, as well as more controlled fly manipulation.

In short: This line is the ideal choice for fly fishers looking for a high-performance and versatile fly line that can master a wide range of techniques and conditions. Its thoughtful design and high-quality materials ensure excellent casting and presentation characteristics in a variety of fishing situations. Whether casting dry flies at a distance or fishing with heavier rigs in deep pools – the Elite Gold XP provides the power and versatility needed to succeed. Choose the Elite Gold XP for Extra Power + Extra Versatility.
