Cortland Trout Boss Floating Green / Yellow

The Trout Boss is Cortland's premium fly line designed for modern fly rods with fast and ultra-fast actions. It is particularly suited for fishing in medium to large rivers using dry flies, nymphs, and streamers. The first 9.14 meters have a ¾ AFTMA class overweight, ensuring better loading of powerful, fast blanks even with shorter line lengths. This allows the angler to feel how the rod works, present delicately and precisely at close range, and achieve significantly improved performance with overhead and roll casts at shorter distances.

With a 10.6-meter-long head, the line provides more weight than a “standard” WF line, making it perfect for the most commonly required casting distances in larger rivers. This design ensures a much more relaxed casting routine.

Flies can be presented effortlessly at all distances up to about 16 meters – even without double hauling, provided the rod has enough power. When letting the head shoot, extreme distances can be achieved with overhead casts, as well as very long ranges with roll casts or switch casts.

The Trout Boss is heavier but not thicker. By using an exceptionally thin braided nylon multifilament core, the outer head diameter remains slim despite the increased coating mass. The advantages of the reduced water, air, and friction resistance include: the line cuts excellently through the wind, forms tight loops, glides smoothly through the water, mends easily and quietly, and lifts effortlessly off the water for a new cast. Additionally, the combination of high mass and slim coating diameter provides excellent buoyancy, ensuring the line floats very high on the water.

The Trout Boss features the ultra-smooth, highly durable, and high-floating HTx coating. HT stands for "heat-tempered," a multi-step process where a thermally hardened coating is applied to fill all surface irregularities, even microscopic ones, creating an absolutely homogeneous and smooth surface. A subsequent, precisely calibrated heat shock treatment hardens and seals the line, giving it a surface texture as smooth as glass. The extremely low friction coefficient of the HTx coating ensures excellent shooting performance and minimizes the line’s adhesion to the water surface. Additionally, the HTx coating is dirt-repellent.

The head of the Trout Boss HTx is colored in a discreet green, with a color change to yellow at the handling section. This allows the angler to always see the optimal length of line available for the perfect cast. The line is equipped with welded loops at both the tip and the end for quick and easy connection to the leader and backing.
