The Phantom X is Umpqua's new top product among fluorocarbon leaders. The unique 5-layer construction ensures excellent abrasion resistance, extremely high tensile strength and knot strength, low visibility, and reduced stretch for better bite detection.

‘Never seen before strength, sensitivity, and invisibility’ – this is how Umpqua describes their new premium tippet. The Phantom X is a five-layer ultra fluorocarbon tippet and is, according to the manufacturer, the strongest and most invisible fluorocarbon line on the market. The material has very low stretch due to its core, making it possible to detect even the smallest bites directly. A unique chemical process, where FC monomers are bonded into polymer chains, combined with Umpqua's unique coating, ensures abrasion resistance, sensitivity, excellent density, invisibility, and strength. All Phantom X spools come with a custom ProBand to prevent the tippet from unwinding by itself.

Like any other FC, Umpqua's fluorocarbon has two major advantages: First, FC has a comparable refractive index to water. This means that leaders made of FC are almost invisible in water. In crystal clear waters, it often has an advantage over conventional nylon (monofilament) leaders. Second, fluorocarbon sinks slightly, while nylon floats on the surface. For this reason, and because of its higher abrasion resistance, FC is often used where rocks or other structures pose a threat during the fight.
