The Umpqua Perform X Indicator Tippet is the perfect addition to any Euro Nymph Leader. This is because nymphing techniques in the stretched line style (e.g. 'French nymphing') do not use classic bite indicators on the water surface, as these unnaturally accelerate the free drift of the nymph close to the bottom. Instead, sighters are used that do not bear the weight of the nymph. The bites are sensed thanks to special rigs, leaders and sensitive rods (#2 - #4).
This sighter from Umpqua is used for 'Euro Nymphing' - as the nymphing techniques are often referred to collectively - for better observation of the leader and the drift. The monofilament is dyed so that it can be seen optimally when suspended in the air against many different backgrounds. It changes color approximately every 30 cm (fluo yellow/fluo pink) and can be shortened from the 15yds spool to the appropriate length.
This visual aid is available in different diameters so that you can build your own individual leader perfectly. As usual, you can connect a small Pitzenbauer ring between the tippet and sighter as a secure connection or knot a Perfection Loop into the Two Tone Indicator. You can choose the fluorocarbon or nylon tippet (we recommend the somewhat stiffer Stroft ABR for nymph fishing) depending on the water level and the target fish.
A typical rig looks like this: Nymph leader (at least between 12 ft. and 30 ft.) + 30 cm visual aid + 150cm to 200cm leader tip
