The Cortland Indicator Mono Leader Material - Sighter - Bi-Color is the perfect addition to any Euro Nymph leader. In nymphing techniques that use a tight-line approach (e.g., 'French Nymphing'), traditional strike indicators on the water surface are not used, as they unnaturally accelerate the free drift of the nymph near the bottom. Instead, visual aids (so-called 'Sighters') are used, which do not support the weight of the nymph. Strikes are detected through special rigging, leader setups, and the sensitivity of fine rods (#2 - #4).
This Sighter from Cortland is used in 'Euro Nymphing' – as these nymphing techniques are often collectively referred to – to better observe the leader and drift. The monofilament is colored so that it can be optimally perceived against various backgrounds while hanging in the air. It alternates in color from red to yellow and can be cut to the desired length from the 15m spool. This popular Sighter material is available in different diameters, allowing you to build your custom leader perfectly. As usual, you can connect the tippet and Sighter using a small Pitzenbau ring for a secure connection or a Perfection Loop.
The tippet, made of fluorocarbon or nylon (for nymph fishing, we recommend the slightly stiffer Stroft ABR), can be chosen based on water level and target fish.
A typical setup looks as follows: Nymph leader (between 12 and 30 ft.) + 30 cm Sighter + 150 cm to 200 cm tippet
