adh-fishing Sea Trout Fly - Redhead by Johannes Radtke

We have searched our own fly boxes for the best patterns and put together an exclusive collection of our absolute favorite flies for you. Among our adh-fishing flies you will find catchy dry flies, nymphs and streamers that we have trusted 100% for years. Our adh-fishing flies are made with ultra-sharp quality hooks and selected tying materials. Exactly the way we tie and fish them ourselves.

The adh sea trout fly - Redhead is an ingenious streamer with an incredible flexibility. On the one hand, the heavy double eyes ensure that the fly stops and sinks strongly at each strip stop, and then shoots forward again when you pull the fly line. On the other hand, the ingeniously tied antitangle tail made of extremely fine material plays another big role in the lively play in the water. This combination is extremely seductive for the sea trout. In addition, the colors of the fly were chosen to resemble several food of sea trout, such as the goby, a stickleback or even a sand shrimp. The Redhead is one of the best all-around flies for sea trout, all year round!

  • Johannes Radtke on his aversion to the standard Polar Magnus and the creation of his own variation:
"It all started when I wanted to tie a slightly more conspicuous Magnus for the early spring. But under no circumstances did it have to be that dreadful Polar Magnus. After a couple of detours, I ended up with my Redhead, which I've had in my box for over 15 years now. Although I've tried small changes over and over again, they haven't made a big difference, so I still use the original Redhead. The principle is simple: the gray streamer subtly and quite convincingly imitates a goby or another light-colored prey (of which there are many in the Baltic Sea), and the orange head adds an accent. The heavy eyes provide for active jigging, and the soft tail supports the lively impression through its own movement. The soft material allows for both a brisk retrieve and a slow retrieve, as the fibers still have a lot of movement even then. The Redhead is often taken during longer strip pauses or immediately after landing on the surface when it sinks quickly. These qualities make it a great fly for winter and early spring when flies are allowed to attract a bit more attention and still look good when retrieved slowly. Even in very clear water and with shy fish, it can now score points because the color attracts attention but isn't "over the top." Many other lushly tied and overly colorful classic spring flies fail in calm, clear water and, if they catch anything, mostly attract followers or misses. Likewise, the Redhead performs really well in autumn when the fish become more aggressive with the approaching spawning season. I've caught many big fish with it that didn't respond to a more natural pattern anymore. Tied on a size 6 hook, the Redhead closely resembles the size of many trout prey items."
