Silicon tubes are one of the essentials in our tube fly boxes. They function as the connection between tube fly and hook. Slide a short piece (about 1 – 2 cm) onto the end of the tube (like an extension) and thread your tippet through to attach the fly like you normally do. Then slide the knot an part of the hook into the silicone tube. Holds tight and prevents your hook from separating of your fly during casts and fishing. Especially with short tube flies this often causes tangling which may not be realized for a while. You even can set the angle of the treble or double hook in order to allow perfect swinging of the fly wing.
An additional advantage of using these tubes is the colour attraction point you can add to your flies. Of course it is depending on water levels, season and a bit of luck – you'll never know exactly when fishing for salmon or sea trout. ;-)
Silicone Tubing by Veniard comes in a great variety of attractive colors and is made from strong material.
