The Special Grey Trude is a derivative of the well-known Royal Wulff fly and at least as catchy, if not better. With the Grey Trude, the red thread that makes up the Royal Wulff has been replaced with a natural gray body. This still makes the fly a successful pattern in dry fly fishing even on sunny days and when fishing cautiously. The compact tying pattern of the head hackle also makes this fly ideal for fast water, as the fly hardly sinks into the water surface. If you want additional flotation, you can work the head hackle with a floating preparation, for maximum flotation.
