Guideline Dry Fly - Faux Mini Daddy

The Faux Mini Daddy is a small imitation of a crane fly (known among fly-fishers as "Daddy Long Leg"). The "Faux" in the name of this great pattern is derived from the tying material used for the legs: Faux bucktail. This fly was created by Rune Andre Stokkebekk, a Guideline employee, who fished with this fly for several years and found out that the legs are almost indestructible compared to more traditional pheasant tail legs. This fly pattern is both an attractor fly and an imitation fly. It is not often that we encounter many crane flies, but trout are attracted by these patterns throughout the season. Especially in the period from June to September.

If the fish are a bit careful and feed on smaller insects, smaller versions of the Daddy Long Leg will show their full advantage. This fly works both in rivers and lakes and attracts fish that are apparently passive. The ribbing is made of pearl. Above the hackle there is a loop made of CDC, with which you can easily see the flat swimming fly at long distances.

Tip: We recommend a drop of CDC gel on the whole fly, especially on the loop of CDC. The fly is normally fished in Dead Drift in the river. At the lake it can be moved a bit. But it is most catchy when it lies still. When a big trout shows up on the surface, nerves of steel are needed :)
