The Surf & Hucho fly rod is part of the G2 Opal Saltwater family and is a reissue of the popular Platinum, which became an absolute favorite rod for many saltwater anglers. But why a reissue? Simply because Beulah's rod designers were confident that they could combine the beloved rod characteristics of the old series even better in a new series, thanks to more modern blank technology. This is achieved through the use of graphene resin! The special matrix structure of graphene gives the carbon fibers even greater structural integrity, making the blank extremely robust yet very lightweight. The result of this exclusive material blend is rods that particularly impress with their low swing weight, noticeable from the first meter of line moved through the air.
These brilliant properties excite fly anglers in both freshwater and saltwater, leading to the introduction of another rod in the G2 Opal Saltwater line – the Beulah G2 Opal Surf & Hucho. This rod is designed for targeting roosterfish and similar species, fished from the beach in the surf. Quick and easy casting, even with large flies, is key to success here. These characteristics quickly garnered enthusiasm from the huchen fans as well, because the rod is perfectly designed to launch the huchen fly with just one or a few strokes, even with heavy streamers or lines! Quick, accurate casting throughout the day is not a problem with a precise rod like the Surf & Hucho. The rod accelerates the line to speed rapidly, ensuring that the fly reaches the fish quickly. Thanks to the rod's fast action and minimal recoil, very tight loops are possible, shooting impressive distances even against the wind. Additionally, the G2 Opal has enough power reserves not only to push the cast but also to tame the strongest predators in the blue element or pull the huchen from the current.
The modern material blend is paired with the characteristic blank properties of the Beulah Opal series: a fast blank with an even faster recovery ability. This special action is particularly great for the sometimes hectic saltwater fishing because it combines power in both casting and fighting fish. The new blanks not only reduce the weight and swing weight of the rod during casting but also eliminate unwanted lateral vibrations. This allows for cleaner and, above all, tighter loops to be formed more easily and effortlessly. Additionally, the somewhat unique cast when fishing for huchen, overhead with both hands, feels almost effortless, and the rod loads extremely easily to then unload in the form of a long cast.
The aesthetics and feel of the rod are flawless. The stylish dusk blue blank is fitted with high-quality stainless steel snake guides and titanium tip tops. Of course, everything is perfectly wrapped and neatly finished. The premium cork grip with subtle embellishments feels great in hand, interrupted only by the beautiful anodized aluminum reel seat. For extra power during casting and fighting fish, the Opal Surf & Hucho features a longer cork grip as well as a grip for the lower hand. This so-called Force Grip provides better leverage for fighting large fish and allows for two-handed overhead casting. The Figure of Eight cast is also easily executed with the longer grip, should a large pike be the target fish you wish to entice.
In short: The Beulah Opal G2 Surf & Hucho fly rod is a new, ultralight fly rod for targeting the strongest predators in the surf as well as for pike and huchen! Its brilliant blank properties and the construction of the rod with the Force Grip make it the perfect casting and fighting machine for the demanding fishing for roosterfish or huchen.
