Guideline Nymph - Tactical Pheasant Tail Nymph - Natural
The patterns from the Tactical PTN series by Guideline are modern pheasant tail nymphs tied with the best materials. These effective nymphs can be used either in a Euro-nymphing rig or fished in a dry & dropper style. They have a natural appearance and have proven themselves thousands of times on trout and grayling.
The Natural Pheasant Tail Nymph from Guideline takes a slightly different approach compared to most other typical Euro-nymphs. It is slightly lighter because its bead size is smaller. This offers the advantage of fishing the pattern in slower flowing currents or shallower waters when used without a heavier second fly. The appearance of these flies is imitative, and soft CDC legs give the fly life. Moving legs in slower currents often outperform typical perdigons with a more static appearance. This fly is a popular pattern for the whole season when mayflies are present. Choose the size to imitate what is hatching or visible in the water.
The Tactical PTN in 'Natural' is similar to many different mayfly nymphs. Natural coloured pheasant tail fibres are probably the most universal colour you can have in a nymph for river fishing. The tails are Cock de Leon and the wing cases and legs are CDC. The orange dubbing in front of the wing housing is a very effective trigger point and adds attraction and life to the fly.
