Here, Robert Arlinghaus explains what will happen with the donations in 2022:
"For the generous donation of 1,100 euros in 2021 and the contribution to our research work, I would like to express my sincere thanks as head of the Integrative Fisheries Management working group at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries.
In the past year 2021, we have mainly worked on questions of the movement behaviour of the Bodden pike and on the reaction of fish in lakes to fishery management measures such as the introduction of deadwood. We were able to prove that the Bodden pike are predominantly very mobile, covering maximum distances of 10 km on average, with record migration distances of over 50 km. These are the largest migratory movements ever recorded for Baltic pike. We have also conducted extensive survey studies among Bodden and cod anglers to better understand their opinions on coastal developments and their suggestions to management. In another study we found that carp show hook avoidance behaviour. This occurs even when the carp are just watching their colleagues being caught.
In 2020, we produced over 40 scientific papers on very different topics, which can be viewed at www.ifishman.de. If you want to stay up to date, you can sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social channels (ifishman.science or on Twitter RArlinghausFish).
The continuation of the Boddenhecht project is scheduled for 2022. We will continue to study the migration routes in detail, analyse the growth and nutrition of the Bodden pike and are currently conducting a large fishermen's survey to give fishermen a say as well as anglers. Other projects deal with the question of how size-selective fishing affects the schooling behaviour of fish and whether UV lures produce better catches than artificial lures without UV.
Your donation will be used to co-fund our latest baby, the publication of an open access fisheries journal (www.zeitschrift-fischerei.de). Here, technical articles will be made available to the public in German.
Thank you for your support and Tight Lines to all! Robert Arlinghaus"
