Celebrating 150 years of excellence through innovation - This is the motto under which the traditional British company Hardy celebrates its 150th anniversary. Happy Birthday!
In 1872, Wiliam Hardy, a skilled gunsmith and passionate fisherman, founded his company on Paikes Street in Alnwick, Northumberland. In addition to selling guns and cartridges, he began selling fishing tackle just one year later and was assisted by his brother John James, who was also a keen fisherman. The Hardy brothers quickly built up an excellent reputation and became known for their high-quality tackle in England.
As their focus on fishing tackle sales and the success of their company grew, so did their demand for quality, which is why Wiliam and John James began to create their own designs in 1877. In particular, their range of high quality bamboo rods was highly regarded and earned them a gold medal at the Great International Fisheries Exhibition in London in 1883. With this award at the latest, Hardy made the step onto the international stage! Due to the high demand, they built the Bondgate Factory in 1890, where high-quality fishing tackle was produced by hand for the next 75 years. Among them was the legendary Hardy Perfect fly reel, which was first introduced to the market in 1891 after a 3-year development period.
150 years later, the Perfect is still an integral part of the Hardy range and is not only appreciated by traditionalists. The latest generation of this timeless fly reel underlines that Hardy has always understood how to turn innovative design ideas into excellent products.
Hardy fly rods and reels combine the latest technologies with a timeless, classic look and cover all facets of fly fishing today. That's why we are very happy to be able to offer you the entire Hardy range.
