A caddis nymph is a must-have in any fly box and works on most rivers - especially during the summer months. The 'Peeping Caddis' is a classic and imitates the larva leaving its case made from fine gravel etc. It catches both Trout and Grayling, but also Barbel and Chub love a healthy Caddis snack.
In this tying video Alexander Keus (author of 'Nymphenfischen - Geheimnisse entlarvt') is tying a simple but highly effective Caddis Nymph: The 'Peeping Caddis Jig'. Due to the Jig hook this pattern can be presented deep and the danger of getting stucked on the bottom is minimized. It can be tied in several sizes, from #10 to #14. During the summer this nymph works best in fast rapids! In spring you will be successful in slower runs too.
Enjoy tying and nymphing!
