A black streamer should not be missing in any Pike fly box! In this video Paulo Hoffmann introduces one of his favourites: The Glitter Goby. A robust pattern that combines natural tying materials like bucktail and feathers with a catchy mix of fine flash, synthetic fibres and craft fur. Have fun retying!
The 'Glitter Goby' is a mid-length Pike streamer with little weight - just some UV glue is used for the head. This makes it very versatile and you can use it well on floating line and for shallow waters as on a sinking line. Thanks to the minimalist use of material, the pattern sinks quickly and casts very well - even on lighter tackle. Thanks to the special tying technique, it is extremely robust and can withstand many Pike attacks. The streamer's great is a result of the soft feathers and the fine flash, which is used very discreetly. The sturdy head is made of Craft Fur, which is twisted in the dubbing loop with the help of a dubbing twister, making it even more durable. Finally, the head area is shaped with a brush and the small eyes are fixed with superglue before the gap between both eyes is filled with UV glue.
In detail, Paulo's 'Glitter Goby' uses:
- Pike hook in #2/0 e.g. from Gamakatsu or Partridge
- Bucktail (black)
- Saddle feather (black)
- Grizzly cock feather (natural)
- Flash (multicolour black)
- Synthetic fibres e.g. from Pike Monkey or H2O (black)
- Craft Fur (black)
- 3D epoxy eyes
- Strong tying thread e.g. from Veevus
- Superglue
- UV glue
