Lisa Jakubowski from World Fly Angler shows you in this fly tying video one of her most catching patterns for lightweight Pike fishing. 'Dit kleene Schwarze' (The Small Black One) is a handlong streamer that can be tied with only a few materials and can be casted easily even on light fly tackle. Lisa loves to fish this pattern on a floating line in waist-deep water with her 8-weight Thomas & Thomas Exocett. And even with a 7-weight rod this minimalistic pike streamer made of bucktail and flash can be presented with ease. For Lisa, the setup for the little black one includes a fluorocarbon leader of about rod length and a bite guard made of Single Strand Titanium with 25lbs. or 11,3 kg (e.g. from Knot2Kinky). The Streamer is tied directly to the Titanium by means of a Perfection Loop or she uses a snap for a faster fly change.
A perfect fly for clear, shallow water and waters with high fishing pressure!
Nice profile and fine flash accents
The fine Tinsel Blend Hair (here in the colours Peaock Black or Multi Black) plays especially well in water and is much more discreet than many other flash materials due to the lack of holo particles. An alternative is the classic Hedron Flashabou, which also features a narrow cut and is available in great ready-made colour combinations. Optionally, thin, long Grizzly hackle feathers can be integrated for the tail on each side of the hook shank. These bright feathers offer a nice contrast to the dark body made of Bucktail. Of course this small Pike streamer can also be tied in other colour combinations - brown, green and also white work very well depending on the situation on the water. And if you don't know which colour to choose: Black works almost all the time.
Easy to tie with little materials used
The Gamakatsu F314 in #2/0 has the perfect size
'Dit kleene Schwarze' is tied on a Gamakatsu F314 in hook size 2/0. This hook is the perfect size for handlong streamers and is 100% reliable - even with big fish. The medium length shank offers enough space to form a body with a beautiful silhouette. Thanks to the large hook gap, Gamakatsu's F314 has excellent hook characteristics and sits securely in the pike mouth.
Shallow water fly - Dit kleene Schwarze
Ideal conditions for Lisa Jakubowski's small black streamer are clear, shallow waters - for example weed zones or bays. The Streamer can be stripped very quickly, but due to its low weight it also allows very slow presentations. So it is also ideal for winter fishing at low temperatures when the Pike only react to streamers in slow motion. The weight of 'Dit kleene Schwarze' comes from the hook and the head alone with UV glue. The small eyes are 4,5mm - 6mm in size and are first fixed with super glue until the gap between the two eyes is closed with UV glue. The colour of the eyes does not matter in the end, but they must match the small black eyes. Silver, red or yellow are our personal favourites.
Have fun tying and fishing with this great little Pike fly!
