Fishing for Salmon is considered to be the top end of fly fishing, especially regarding the endurance while fishing. Even one of the well-known waters like the Gaula in Norway or the Spey in Schottland aren't an easy task for the most accomplished fisher. Water level, temperature, time of the day... Everything has to add up for a perfect day and yet there's no guarantee to be successful. You can change our tactics and switch from floating to sinking lines or vice versa to cover different water levels. Further you can speed up or slow down your fly during a swing to see if there's any reaction. Sometimes it is just a game of try and error, while on other days you hit the spot and know which setup to fish and get a take on one of the first swings. As you'll see, there are many right and wrongs in this game...
The most visual key to success is choosing the right fly. It can be a minor change in flash or colour to create the amount of attraction for particular conditions. Morten Bundgaard ties one of his main patterns in this video. It this case with colours and size for less clear water, flooded contitions or during twilight situations. When it gets darker and darker, you may change to a black version. But you also can tie this pattern every other colour and size for your next trip. It is a great all round tube fly with a nice silhouette and lively wing.
