Simple Flies - Under this motto we present you flies that are tied with few materials and in few steps. Because good flies don't necessarily have to be difficult - quite the opposite! These patterns can be tied quickly and easily. Patterns, that have proven themselves thousands of times in practice and with which you can quickly fill your fly box. We show you our interpretations and hope you have fun tying and fishing these Simple Flies. Let's go!
The Woolly Bugger is an absolute classic! This pattern is indispensable when fishing for Trout and exists today in countless variations. Characteristic of the Wooly Bugger are a fluffy tail made of soft feathers (e.g. marabou) and a hackled body that enlarges the streamer's silhouette in the current and adds to its action. The most typical colour of the Woolly Bugger is black.
The Rusty Woolly Bugger is our interpretation. In the colour combination brown, gold and black this streamer serves mainly to imitate a small minnow and is for us an important pattern for the start of the Trout season and whenever big Trout are on the prowl. This streamer is tied with only a few materials and a few simple tying steps and belongs for us in every fly box.
You are free to choose a hook size between #1 and #8. We have chosen a Gamakatsu F314 in #4 - a universal size for big Brown Trout. Our Woolly Bugger is weighted with a tungsten bead (4.6 mm or 5.5 mm).
You will also need a Rusty Woolly Bugger:
- Marabou (brown)
- Tinsel Blend Hair (deep gold)
- Tying Wire (gold or brown)
- Hedron Flashabou Dubbing (gold for the body, brown for the finish)
- Soft feathers to hackle the body (brown or grizzly brown)
And very important: brush the body vigorously after tying it! This is how the Rusty Woolly Bugger unfolds its full potential in the current.
