Simple Flies - Under this motto we present you flies that are tied with few materials and in few steps. Because good flies don't necessarily have to be difficult - quite the opposite! These patterns can be tied quickly and easily. Patterns, that have proven themselves thousands of times in practice and with which you can quickly fill your fly box. We show you our interpretations and hope you have fun tying and fishing these Simple Flies. Let's go!
Mayflies are found on almost all creeks and rivers and appear in different sizes and colours throughout the year. For trout and grayling they are among the most important food sources and are imitated by us fly fishers in all stages - from larva to adult insect. In the nymph stage, the classic pheasant tail nymph is one of the most prominent and popular patterns. However, with the help of filigree tying materials such as the Body Quill from Veevus, imitations of a mayfly larva can be made even easier!
Body Quill from Veevus is a fine yet very robust synthetic fibre that can be used as a substitute for conventional tying threads. This makes it quick and easy to tie a slim, conical body, which is one of the typical characteristics of many members of the large mayfly family. To imitate different species of mayflies, you can vary the colour and size of our Easy Mayfly Nymph - from brown to olive to yellow and from hook size #18 to #12. All you need besides the Body Quill from Veevus is some Coq de Leon for the tail and some rough hare's dubbing for the thorax. And if you want you can give your Easy Mayfly Nymph a hot spot with the popular Glo Brite Floss. In combination with a matching tungsten bead you can quickly bring your nymph to depth and into the feeding zone.
The following materials are used for our Easy Mayfly Nymph:
- Coq de Leon
- Veevus Body Quill
- Hare's ear dubbing or other natural, rough dubbings
- Veniard Glo Brite Floss (orange)
With a repertoire of different sizes, colours and weights you are well equipped for the whole year and can perfectly match the hatch.
Tip: If you decide to use a Hot Spot with Glo Brite, we recommend that you secure the floss with a little superglue. This will increase the lifespan considerably!
