Compact 2.0 or Green Velvet - Power or Control?
The difference between the two Arctic Silver fly lines lies mainly in the construction and length of the belly. The Green Velvet offers with a belly length of 10.9 m and a smooth front taper everything you need for an extremely stable loop. This line can be controlled excellently in the air, thus ensuring extremely precise presentation. In our opinion, this line is an excellent choice for calmer conditions and days when a clean presentation is key to success.
In contrast, the belly of the Compact 2.0 is significantly shorter and packs more punch. The short belly of the Arctic Silver MD Compact 2.0 measures only 8.5 m, allowing for exceptionally quick loading of the rod with optimal energy transfer. You can immediately tell: this line is designed to get the fly back in the water quickly. And that often makes the difference between success and failure at the end of the day. Especially when the wind is blowing strongly in our faces and making life difficult for us.
So it depends on your preferences which Arctic Silver line is the better choice for you. If you want to go full throttle, with as few false casts as possible, then we recommend the Compact 2.0. It allows for extremely efficient casting with minimal effort, which is particularly advantageous when fishing large or heavy flies. In addition, its compact belly provides a very strong turnover, effortlessly carrying even larger streamers to a distance. Even in strong winds! The Green Velvet, on the other hand, is the better choice for more control and precision in casting. Its medium-length belly supports great casting distances and very accurate casts. While it allows for extremely efficient casting, it also offers the possibility to keep more line in the air, thus allowing precise presentations on tricky days. If certain areas need to be fished very meticulously or if slightly smaller sea trout flies are to land gently on the water, then you are well advised with this model. Despite its longer belly, the weight is clearly shifted forward, resulting in a powerful turnover even with this medium-length variant.
MD - Micro Diameter: The Key to Long Casts
Thanks to its so-called Micro Diameter (MD) design, the running line of the Arctic Silver lines in particular has a narrower diameter. This ensures minimal friction in the guides, allowing for high line speeds, better aerodynamics, excellent shooting characteristics, and impressive casting distances. Thus, all MD lines propel your sea trout flies to record distances, even in challenging wind conditions. The low-stretch, braided core also guarantees direct contact with the fly and powerful hook sets - even at full casting distance. For us, the thin diameter offers another advantage: Your line takes up less space on the reel!
But beware: If your fingers are wet and cold, the thin diameter of the line may reduce grip somewhat. But Arctic Silver has also come up with a practical solution for this potential problem, at least when casting: The so-called Handling Zone with a length of 4 m provides relief! This grippy area between the running line and the belly allows for improved line control during casting and while fishing. Thanks to the color transition, you know exactly when the perfect moment has come to shoot the line.
Smart Packaging - More than just a cartboard box
Arctic Silver has hidden a great gimmick in the packaging design as well. The sturdy, magnetic packaging can easily be reused as a practical fly box, thanks to built-in foam slots. A great, sustainable solution, in our opinion! Sustainability is very important to Arctic Silver, which is why they joined the "1% for the Planet" initiative right from the start: 1% of the total company revenue is reinvested in ecological projects. We are very happy to support this cause!
We wish you tight lines and successful sea trout fishing on the coast with the lines from Arctic Silver!
