Max Evo, Max Black, or XTZ? Which nymph rod from Adams Fly Rods suits you, and what are the differences between the different models? In our latest video on adh-world, we team up with euro-nymph expert Bob Schmitz to explore the characteristics of the three popular Euro Nymph rods. Additionally, the CEO of Adams reveals his personal favorite rod.
Adams Fly Rods come from Spain and have been developed there by Danic Garcia (Spain) and Bob Schmitz (Luxembourg), two passionate fly and nymph anglers. The two experienced minds behind Adams know exactly what demanding nymph anglers need, and they have fine-tuned their rods from A to Z for functionality and fishability - without losing sight of a modern design.
The 'Adams Family' currently consists of three members: Max Evo, Max Black, and XTZ. Depending on the fishing style, budget, and preferences, Adams offers a suitable specialty rod for every nymph angler with these three models. To help YOU find the perfect nymph rod for your needs, we had Bob explain the fundamental differences (and similarities) of the rod series. One thing is certain: The rod series were intentionally designed to complement each other, with no model excluding another. So, whether you're a nymphing beginner, a dedicated professional, or an occasional nymph angler, at Adams, you will surely find the right model for you.
- Adams Max Evo:
The Max Evo rod series stands out for its versatility and affordability. As a more budget-friendly entry-level model, it offers an excellent price-performance ratio. However, this rod is not only targeted at beginners but also appeals to experienced anglers seeking a reliable second or backup rod. The Max Evo is available in three different lengths and features a sanded blank that has been subsequently varnished. Its robust construction allows for fishing with very heavy nymphs and is ideal for domestic waters, where large barbel and other powerful coarse fish can enter at any time. The Max Evo is excellently suited for various nymphing techniques and can also be used with conventional fly lines for dry fly fishing. With its versatility and reliable performance, the Max Evo is a popular choice for fly fishermen looking for an affordable yet high-quality product. It is undoubtedly one of the best all-around nymph rods on the market, at a genuinely fair price. It's no surprise that it's one of our top sellers!

- Adams Max Black
The Adams Max Black rod is the perfect hybrid between the Max Evo and the XTZ. It stands out with its robust construction and excellent features for targeted fishing of large fish. The sensitive tip paired with a powerful backbone combines excellent bite detection with uncompromising fighting capabilities. The Max Black features a sanded, unvarnished blank, providing high stiffness and stability. This allows you to effortlessly cast heavy nymphs and streamers and effectively fight and land large fish. The rod has a fast tip action, which, especially with weighted flies, allows for more precision than many other nymph rods on the market. The Max Black is specially designed for targeted fishing of large, powerful fish and/or in stronger currents. However, thanks to the delicate tip and the special carbon handle, it still offers a high level of sensitivity and bite detection.

- Adams XTZ
The Adams XTZ rod stands out with its particularly sensitive and versatile rod action. With its semi-parabolic action, it offers excellent precision and outstanding sensitivity while fishing and casting. The XTZ is perfect for fishing with delicate, lightweight nymphs and even allows for dry fly presentations on the nymph leader. Its unsanded blank has a spiral texture, ensuring that thinner monofilament lines do not stick to the blank in rainy or humid conditions. The fine semi-parabolic blank, combined with the high-quality carbon handle, enables incredibly precise bite detection, a high level of control during drifts and casts, and allows for fishing with incredibly fine tippet strengths, as the blank effectively absorbs strong head shakes. The XTZ is particularly designed for fly fishermen who enjoy nymph fishing with a light touch, seek extremely delicate presentations, and desire a high level of control and sensitivity. Especially during summer fishing, in clear waters, and when pursuing elusive, hard-to-catch fish, the XTZ is our weapon of choice. Hardly any other nymph rod on the market allows for such a high degree of sensitivity while fishing.
