Fly Tying Video 'Mysis' - Catchy floating shrimp for sea trout!
Catchy patterns for the coast! In this tying video, Martin demonstrates how to tie one of his favorite flies for tricky sea trout: The 'MYSIS'. Thanks to its natural coloring and a steady, slow presentation on a floating or slow-intermediate line, the Mysis is a true trump card when the fish are selective.
The Mysis is a mysid shrimp, attributed to the genus of mysid crustaceans in the family Mysidae. Mysis shrimps occur in large swarms and cannot move very quickly. They float in the water and are easily caught by currents and waves. Sea trout hunt Mysis similar to sandhoppers, without much effort, as they do not exhibit escape behavior or cannot flee. Thus, the mysid shrimps are simply collected, and the bites are rather subtle. For this reason, we often fish the fly with floating or slow-intermediate lines in long, steady retrieves and rather slowly. Mysis in natural colors and smaller sizes is a brilliant tip for "tricky" fish, i.e., in calm waters, sunny conditions, and clear water. It's always worth having a size #8 or #10 Mysis in the box, as it is an inconspicuous pattern and sea trout are very familiar with mysid shrimps. The Mysis is only half the size or even smaller than the well-known Baltic shrimp. Due to its size, we tie the fly on hooks ranging from #10 to maximum #6.

- Back: Approx. 3mm Scud Back in brown, amber, or another natural color (e.g., from Wapsi)
- Thread: Thin, strong tying thread (e.g., Veevus Tying Thread G.S.P. GSP in 30D)
- Eyes: Bead chain eyes (e.g., from Hareline)
- Feather: Mallard or duck feather in a natural hue (e.g., from Wapsi)
- Ribbing: Monofilament
